Mel's Insights:

There are not too many areas in London that I don't have some history with, but it just so happens that Ilderton is my true childhood home (or at least RR#3 Ilderton was my official home). When I was growing up, the town of Ilderton was literally a crossroad in the middle of the country. Seriously, no need for a map! Back in the day, Ilderton's society centered around the community arena and, of course, the Ilderton Fair. Today the arena still is a big part society in Ilderton and it's no surprise why. I mean, this was home ice to Olympic Gold Metal winners Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue!

According to, The Ilderton Fair is one of the largest country fairs in Southwestern Ontario. It's a great option for families, kids and anyone looking for some great entertainment. You've got the typical midway rides and games, but one of the big draws is the agricultural exhibits where you can also experience a taste of farm life with the 4H shows. Let's just say, I'm a huge fan.

Over the years, the town of Ilderton has grown substantially. Today, the community consists of around 2500 people enjoying home-grown shops, restaurants and community parks & centres (check out a few of the top picks I've listed below).

When purchasing a home in Ilderton, there are basically 2 options: older character homes (original to the town) or newer builds (approximately 20 years old or younger). While many enjoy the character of the older homes, most of the newer homes offer a bit more space and most come with attached garages (bonus!). With Ilderton, you truly get the best of both worlds: small town living with access to the larger city of London. Ilderton offers a strong community base at home with the access of more jobs, shopping and night life of London at your figure tips. Ilderton is an easy 40 minute drive to Lake Huron, Lambton Shores, Grand Bend and Bayfield areas. Ilderton is a great option for those you wanting the quiet, small town living but with the benefits of city life nearby.
