Mel's Insights:

When I was looking for the next neighbourhood to explore for the monthly profile, I came across the neighbourhood of Jackson, in London, Ontario, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure I had ever heard of it! But, with a little research, I discovered that I’m actually very familiar with the area (which includes the Summerside Community, the new community of Victoria on the River, and the surrounding area) and I even know a member of the family that the neighbourhood was named after.

The Summerside Community popped up in the middle of a field back in 1995, with promises of schools to be built in the first half dozen years and virtual monitoring cameras set up on the parks for families. The schools were eventually built, but the monitoring systems has since been shut down. The Summerside Community consists mainly of 2-storey homes with garages, varying in price from $160,000 for townhouse-style condos to $400,000 for single family residences (as of 2015). One of the things I love about the neighbourhood is it's diversity and easy access to nature around it.

The other community in this area, called Victoria on the River, is just being built now (as of 2014/2015). As the name suggests, this community runs along the Thames River providing large, lovely homes with walking paths in a beautiful natural setting. I have been very impressed with the homes in this area that I've seen so far, and can’t wait to see the final, overall effect.

The neighbourhood of Jackson is a mixture of residential areas, along with some agricultural and industrial zoning, as it’s closer to Veterans Memorial Highway. Veterans Memorial provides residents with easy access to the 401 and is part of a 'ring road' (Veterans Memorial + 401 + 402) that swings around the south side of the city of London, from east to west. If you’re looking for a neighbourhood that takes advantage of new construction within a natural setting, the neighbourhood of Jackson could be for you. Get in touch with me if you’d like to view homes in the area. I’d love to show you around.
