Mel's Insights:

Oakridge is one of those neighbourhoods where after people discover it, they never leave. With street names like Dolway, Donegal, Dunedin, Kildare and Solway, there is a notable Irish influence of this neighbourhood that was first established in the 1950s. It's the type of neighbourhood where a number of residents bought homes here in the 1960s, raised their families and now entertain their grandchildren. Multi-family residences first appeared in 1961, but the neighbourhood is made up of mostly single family homes. They feature typically larger lots and logical floor plans, with some of the homes also featuring original "rumpus rooms" in the basement, which are perfect for setting up a games room or media area for the modern family. Despite a surplus of older homes, there continues to be a supply of newer homes, with developments like Oakridge Crossing and Deer Ridge West.

The neighbourhood is conveniently located close to the large shopping area of Hyde Park and is also home to the Sifton Bog (a great place to bring your boots and go for a walk), the Thames Valley Golf Course and the London Hunt and Country Club (which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2010).

The area is also homes to a number of great schools, including Riverside Public School, Westdale Public School, John Dearness Public School, Clara Brenton Public School, Notre Dame Catholic Elementary, St. Paul Catholic Elementary, Oakridge Secondary School, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School and St. Matthew's Hall (a leading area private school).
