NEIGHBOURHOOD IN NORTH EAST LONDON, ONTARIO
Geographical Boundaries:
Stoneybrook is a neighbourhood in the North East area of London, Ontario. It's bound by Fanshawe Park Roadway at the North end (although, the neighbourhood continues to expand with new developments), Highbury Avenue (East), Thames River (South), and Richmond Street (West).
Mel's Insights:
I was lucky enough as a teen to attend St. Mark’s Catholic Grade School for grade 7 & 8 in the Northridge area of Stoneybrook. I had no idea at the time, but I was going to school in one of the best family-oriented neighbourhoods in the city of London, Ontario. Stoneybrook still remains one of the best neighbourhoods for families and is home to some of the best shopping in London, Ontario at Masonville Place.
The homes in the Stoneybrook area range anywhere from 25 to 60 years old and are often ranchers, side splits and 2 storey homes that ares set on comfortable to larger lots. Because it is one of the more established areas, the streets are lined with gorgeous, mature trees and beautifully landscaped yards.
Stoneybrook is home to Kilally Meadows, a 146-hectare, Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) that is publicly owned. It features nice walking trails that span various terrain, from wet swamps and meadows to wooded areas right by the riverside.
The Kennedy's Pumpkins (located 1276 Rideau Gate, corner of Rideau Gate and Glenora) is an annual event around Halloween that features over 600 carved and lit pumpkins with all donations going to the local food bank.
